An Introduction
Heroes are just like regular units in many respects, but there are a few features that set them apart:
- Heroes are not recruited in a building, I will explain more about recruiting heroes later though.
- Heroes are not paid for with resources, but with either "Coins of War" or "Coins of Wisdom " which can be obtained by completing Island Quests.
- Each hero has one special skill that can be found in his or her description, each skill will impact the game in a particular way.
- By investing resources, heroes can reach new levels (up to level 20), this will improve their base values and special skills
- Heroes are not bound to one game world. You can transfer them between worlds for free and get to keep a hero you have acquired forever.
- Heroes don‘t die. Following a defeat they are merely wounded and regain their strength over time.
- Heroes are not tied to the population of cities. You can use and command up to 5 heroes per world at the same time, irrespective of available population
- Heroes can be assigned to cities, but there can be no more than 2 heroes in one city at the same time
- Heroes cannot be used to support other cities or players. They can be used only for your own attacks or in your own cities
Hero Overview
A new menu bar has been added to the game overview, you can find it just below the map in the top left of your screen. If you click on the bar (anywhere), it opens up the Hero Overview.
In the Hero Overview Screen you can see some of the information about the heroes you employ in the active world:
- Level, image and name of a hero
- Status: wounded, in transfer, assigned to a city, in combat
- Current experience points
Please note that you cannot own all 5 heroes right from the start. In the early stages there is only 1 hero slot available. Only after reaching more advanced culture levels can you command more heroes. However, the fifth slot can only be unlocked by paying gold or coins of war / wisdom.
As you can see, there are many tabs in this new overview. I am now going to go through each of these.
Recruiting a Hero
Clicking on the "Recruiting" tab opens up a window that looks liks this:
If you wish to recruit a new hero, you just hit "Call". After doing so you will be presented with two heroes to choose from, one of them from the category "Heroes of War" while the other will be a "Hero of Wisdom"- You can only take one.
The choice you get is random, but only heroes that you do not already own are shown. To acquire a "Hero of War" you need to spend "Coins of War" which you earn by successfully completing Island Quests in an aggressive manner. Generally speaking, "Heroes of War" are useful for any kind of military action. Some of the heroes in this category are good defenders, while other "Heroes of War" excel in leading your armies into battle. "Heroes of Wisdom" on the other hand are paid with "Coins of Wisdom ", which you get by solving Island Quests the peaceful way. The "Heroes of Wisdom" usually help to improve the economy of your cities by, for example, having a positive effect on building times, production of resources and the like.
When choosing a hero you have the option to decline the offered selection altogether, or to buy one of the listed heroes (and paying the required coins). Whatever you decide, you subsequently have to wait 6 hours before being able to 'Call" heroes again.
Incidentally you will come across heroes that require an award in addition to the coins. This is listed in the price for the respective heroes. If this is the case, there is a special quest line that needs to be completed to earn this award. Each hero with an award requirement has his very own quest line, which will appear randomly. When such a quest line has popped up it will be automatically shown in the interface with all your other Island Quests. In addition it has a marker displayed on the map and thus a fixed position, like other Island Quests.
Assigning a Hero
You can assign up to 2 heroes to one city. Heroes that are assigned to a city will give you two benefits:
- If the city is attacked the heroes will defend the city just like common land units
- The special abilities of some heroes can only unfold in a city (like, for example, in the case of Andromeda)
The process of assigning a hero takes exactly one hour, it is the time the hero needs to "move into the city". During this time the hero will not yet bring any benefits. You can manually withdraw a hero from a city at any time.
If your city is conquered, the assigned heroes will be automatically detached and released.
Transferring a Hero
For you to complete your collection of heroes even if you have been conquered or start playing on a new world, there is a free transfer of heroes!
This feature allows you to move heroes from your current game world to your so-called master-account (that is the account with which you log in). After exactly 3 hours the transfer is completed. You could then sign up on another game world and from there view all heroes you own in other worlds or your master-account. Heroes that are not bound to other game worlds can now be transferred to your new world with a simple mouse-click, which will take another 3 hours. Your heroes will keep their levels and experience points even after the transfer is done!
There are however some prerequisites you have to adhere to before a transfer:
- A hero who is involved in a battle cannot be transferred to the master-account
- A hero who is wounded cannot be transferred to the master-account
If you want to move a hero to your active world make sure that you have at least one free hero slot available. Else you need to unlock another hero slot, or (if you have already reached the maximum) transfer another hero to your master-account and wait 3 hours until his slot is freed up.
Note: If a world ends or you have been defeated, all heroes of this world will automatically and instantly be transferred to your master-account, to guarantee that they are at your disposal for a new attempt.
Council of Heroes
And finally, if you click on the "Council" tab, you will be able to see all of the Heroes that there are in the game, along with all of their stats.
