This is a good unit to put in a ground attack army. You may think that the Chariot would be better, but Hoplites have major advantages over them. The main advantages is how easy it is to make them. They cost little and they can quickly be replaced. There horrible speed shouldn't be much of an issue as in most attacks they will be sent via transport ships and they shouldn't ever be used to plunder.

Description

The Hoplite forms the basics of any Greek army. It carries a spear which is a sharp weapon. Because of this it is good offensive and defensive. However it is not good for raiding as it carries too little. It's heavy armor, which is a good defense against impact and stabbing weapons, makes them slow moving units
