The Game Interface
In Grepolis, you navigate on three different views over your island world. That lowest - the City Overview - is described in the chapter Basics. In it, you can administer and expand your Polis.
In the following two sections we explain to you which functions you use on the two other maps, the Island map and the World map.
Island Map
"The true contempt of an invader is shown by deeds of valour in the field" - Hermocrates
To view the area surrounding your city click on the map picture
in the top right of the screen. Here you see all Farms and hostile Polis that are currently established on your island.
This map shows the nearby villages and cities. You click on the farming village or the Polis of your choice to view the action menu .
In farming villages, you have three different choices:- 1-General Information which gives you the current statistics of the village (strength,Mood and current trade ratio).
2-Attack where you select the number and type of units to send and choose either Resource Looting or Strengthen the village.
3-Trade allows you to trade resources at a beneficial rate. You can only Trade if you have a Market built
In player held cities you have 6 options. These include friendly trade and sending an army!
1-General Information which gives you the current statistics of the village.
2-Support. This allows you send troops to help another player defend his city.
3-Attack where you select the number and type of units to send and choose either Resource Looting or Strengthen the players city.
4-Trade allows you to trade resources at a beneficial rate. You can only Trade if you have a Market built
5-Enact Divine Powers. With your Temple built you can gain Divine Favours which are used to either assist yourself or hinder other players. Here is where you activate those powers.
6-Espionage. This is where you send your spies from so you can learn the current status of your enemy. There is a sliding scale to determine how much you will offer your spy to carry out this task. Minimum cost is 1000 Silver. Remember that if the player you are spying on has more silver in his cave than you do in yours the espionage will fail and they will get a report informing them of your spying attempt. This may spur them to action against you sooner than you wished.
The map is easily moved and you can drag and drop it to get a better view. It allows you to move your map around to see neighbouring islands. It is quite easy to use as long as the distances are not too great. While it is possible to view the entire world in this view it would be far easier to use the World Map view for that.
World Map
"Armed forces abroad are of little value unless there is prudent counsel at home" - Cicero
Wish to see
in a wider view? Clicking on the small compass changes the main view to that of the world map. From here you can see who is on neighbouring islands and plan your world domination. You can move around the map by dragging and dropping the picture or clicking on the arrows (North,East,South or West)on the margins.
If you wish to get a closer view of any island that interests you or to see a city better just double click and it will alter the picture to a close up view. Here you can call up the context menu for each city/farm just as on your own island.
Holiday event
Up until December 24th, presents will be floating around on the map with numbers on them. These numbers indicate the date of December they are to be opened. Once opened, players will be able to collect a special gift for there cities or get a sneak peek of the 2.0 update. The location on the map is different for each world, but not for each player of that world. On the world map is a red gift box. Place your mouse pointer over it to reveal a hint to the location of the present. Hint: Most of the presents are in the outer oceans that are less populated. This is most likely so that players can't just log on and find it, they must search hard for them.
